Streets Division Post-Storm Brush Clean Up Efforts Underway

The Streets Division will increase the number of brush collection crews rotating through the city in response to the recent heavy rainstorms that caused tree damage. The extra crews will remain assigned to brush collection until the storm damage has been collected from the entire city. Due to the volume of brush out, the process of collecting the material from the storm could take up to four weeks. There will be no change to how crews rotate through the city. Residents are encouraged to use the collection maps located on the brush section of the Streets Division website (www.cityofmadison.com/streets) or by calling the brush collection hotline at 608-267-2088 to approximate when collection crews may arrive.

For residents on the west side of Madison, which are all residents west of South Park Street, crews are currently collecting from the area that has a Thursday refuse collection day. Once west side crews complete this area of the city, they will rotate to the area of the west side with a Friday refuse collection day. After the Friday area is complete, crews will rotate to the Monday area, then the Tuesday area followed by the Wednesday area before coming back to the Thursday area again.

For residents on the east side of Madison, which are all residents east of South Park Street, and that includes the isthmus, crews are currently collecting from the area that has a Friday refuse collection day. Once east side crews complete this area of the city, they will rotate to the area of the east side with a Monday refuse collection day. After the Monday area is complete, crews will rotate to the Tuesday area, then the Wednesday area followed by the Thursday area before coming back to the Friday area again.

Both east and west side crews will continually loop through the city in this manner until the end of brush collection season. The extra brush crews will be reassigned to other Streets Division tasks once the storm damage has been collected.

The Streets Division has also temporarily lifted the one-load-a-day restriction at the two brush drop-off sites that are available to city of Madison residents and taxpayers. Residents and taxpayers of the city of Madison may bring multiple brush loads a day until July 21, 2016. Due to space restrictions at the drop-off sites, the brush loads are still restricted to roughly the size of a standard pickup truck bed or small trailer, which is 5' x 8'.

The drop-off sites are located at 1501 W. Badger Rd. on the southwest side of Madison and 4602 Sycamore Ave. on the east side. The sites are open 8:30am to 4:30pm seven days a week, and until 8:00pm on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

Contractors are still barred from using these drop-off sites. The only city service available to contractors to dispose of brush cut from a city of Madison parcel is the brush processing center located at 121 E.
