Madison Children's Museum hosts free family COVID-19 vaccination clinic on Monday, Dec. 13, 1-7pm - Vaccinations available for kids 5+ up and adults: All vaccinations are free. Admission to the museum is free for anyone getting vaccinated or accompanying a family member getting vaccinated. Advance registration and more information here, walk-ups also possible.

In advance of deliberation and hiring decision at its Dec. 16 meeting, the Police Civilian Oversight Board is releasing two interviews with the final candidate for the Independent Monitor position. Find links to the interviews here.
The City's Board of Police and Fire Commissioners will meet on Monday, Dec. 13 at 5pm. Public comment is welcome at the start of the meeting, including on the hiring of a new Fire Chief. Anyone who wishes to provide input into the hiring process may register to speak during public comment at this website and written comments may be sent to pfc@cityofmadison.com.
On Tuesday, Dec. 14, Andi Cloud wraps up her Storyteller Residency by getting personal! The virtual event, Being Hinu: Growing Up Ho-Chunk in the 20th Century, will provide a look into Andi's life, including pivotal moments where she learned her tribe's ways and started to define what the Ho-Chunk life means to her. Alternate side parking began on Nov. 15. In District 2 and most of the city center, Alternate Side Parking rules are in effect only during a Declared Snow Emergency. The City of Madison winter website has all the resources you need.

WYSO

Wisconsin Youth Symphony Orchestra Proposal at UDC on Wednesday

On Wednesday, Dec. 15, the Wisconsin Youth Symphony Orchestra Proposal for a portion of the 1100 block of E. Washington Avenue will be considered by Urban Design Commission. At that meeting, WYSO will be seeking both initial and final approval, although the Commission could grant or deny initial approval, refer that matter to a future meeting, or, if initial approval is granted, extend that to final approval. UDC is an approving body on the proposal's conformity with Urban Design District 8 requirements and guidelines as may be appropriate in order to implement the Core Development Principles of the East Washington Avenue Capitol Gateway Corridor Plan. The Plan Commission is expected to consider the applicant's demolition application for the Avenue Club at its Jan. 10 meeting, but no further consideration by Plan Commission is necessary.

If approved, this redevelopment will include construction of a new building with rehearsal and studio spaces, offices, practice rooms, and spaces for community gathering. The presentation slides for UDC and the proposed operating plan can be found here.

The Tenney-Lapham Neighborhood Association Council earlier voted to send letters of support for the proposal to UDC and Plan Commission. Nearby neighbors of the site and the greater neighborhood have been supportive of the proposal, although concerns have been registered about the need to keep car traffic off of Curtis Court as much as possible; saving existing trees; keeping the exterior lighting at reasonable levels, and the need to keep construction traffic off of Curtis Court. Tree Trimming Coming East of Yahara River

City Forestry crews will soon be pruning street trees in the area highlighted in orange above, generally east and north of the Yahara River. Their objective is to prune every small street tree within the area (trees that we are able to prune without the use of an aerial tower). Winter recreation is getting closer BUT all rinks and lagoons remain closed. Get the status of your favorite winter recreation locations: cityofmadison.com/parks/winterfun.
A friendly reminder, Glenway Golf Park is CLOSED to all foot traffic. Including no walking the grounds, and once snow arrives, no cross-country skiing, snowshoeing or sledding. Please use one or more of the many other parks for your winter recreation fun. Learn More

RECOMMEND TO ADOPT

Fiscal Note

The proposed resolution expresses support for the Engineering Division and Transportation Department grant application to the Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDOT) 2022-2026 Transportation Alternatives Program (TAP). The application seeks federal funding for six bicycle and pedestrian projects. A separate resolution accepting the grant award will be submitted at a later date should the City be awarded the grant funding from WisDOT.

Partial Resolution Body

This application includes the following proposed bicycle and pedestrian improvement projects, and based on input from the Transportation Policy and Planning Board, these projects will be prioritized on the grant applications. The proposed priority is noted below, but this may change based on additional committee input, and staff will make the appropriate changes with the grant application documents.

5. Cross Isthmus Improvements - includes improved bicycle connections across the isthmus, primarily along Franklin St., Hancock St. and Blount St., and would also include installation of bike lanes along E. Washington Ave. from Blair St. to the Capitol Square.

PUBLIC WORKS CONSTRUCTION MANAGEMENT - PUBLIC CONTRACTS

Approving plans and specifications and authorizing the Board of Public Works to advertise and receive bids for 2022 Sport Court Resurfacings. (1, 2, 10, 11, 13, 15, 19 AD)

Color coating, crack repair, striping and power washing of acrylic surface sport courts at Allied, Elver, James Madison, Olbrich, Tenney, Westmorland and Wexford Parks. The total estimated cost of the project is $103,000.

Approving plans and specifications and authorizing the Board of Public Works to advertise and receive bids for Tenney Park East Johnson St. Pedestrian Bridge Wing Walls. (2 AD)

Parks Division will replace the existing wing walls on the East Johnson St pedestrian bridge. The existing stone wing walls are in poor condition and in need of replacement. New wing walls will be constructed of cut limestone block. The total estimated cost is $55,000.
