Parks, Kwik Trip Meeting and other events
Happy June District 3,
A few updates:
Today's special election
-
If you live in County Board District 17, be sure to vote today. Polls are open from 7 am--8 pm.
-
Find your voter information at MyVote.wi.gov
North Star Dog Park
-
Plans for the dog park at North Star are continuing to move forward. Design and construction of the North Star Dog Park are expected to begin in late 2019. The city anticipates it being ready for use in the fall of 2020. I'll share progress updates on the park as I receive them.
Galaxy Park (formerly known as Camar Park)
-
Many folks have asked for a status update on Galaxy Park, the park to be constructed at 132 Milky Way. The Parks department intends to include it in their 2020 Capital Budget which is being worked on right now. Parks will approach the North Star neighborhood in fall 2019 so the community can select playground equipment designs. An open-sided sun shelter will follow the playground and is anticipated to be included in their 2021 capital budget submittal.
Pinney Library Tours
-
Construction of the new Pinney Library began this spring. Foundation staff are offering monthly tours to donors and potential donors. Tour dates are: Friday, June 7; Friday, July 12; and Friday, August 16.
-
All tours begin at 3:30 p.m. Hard hats (available on site) and close-toed shoes are required. The library is located at 516 Cottage Grove Road, Suite 101. Parking is available on Royster Oaks Drive or Pinney Street. Please RSVP to events@mplfoundation.org or call 608.266.6318.
-
The library is expected to be completed and open to the public in spring 2020. Visit mplfoundation.org/pinney to view current project photos.
Kwik Trip Neighborhood Meeting
-
The Kwik Trip store planned for the intersection of Cottage Grove and Sprecher Roads is still in process. Based on city input, Kwik Trip needed to change their proposed design to move the car wash to be attached to the building rather than on the opposite side of the lot. Summit Credit Union will also be moving to east of Sprecher Road as part of this construction.
-
A neighborhood meeting is scheduled to review this, as well as hear from city planning and traffic engineering on Thursday, June 13, 6:30 pm at Door Creek Church.
Ace Apartments/Sentry Food site development update
-
Movin' Out's The Ace Apartments development has received the tax credits they needed from the Wisconsin Housing and Economic Development Administration (WHEDA). They still need to secure additional funds and obtain land use approvals before anything can be moved forward, and they don't expect to have updates on this until late summer. The Ace Apartments is the mixed-use development that includes 10,000 square feet of commercial space on the ground floor and affordable housing for people with disabilities. When I have additional information about the development, I will keep folks informed via these email updates.
Sandbag Collection to be determined by late summer/early fall
-
The City of Madison Engineering and Streets divisions plan to coordinate sandbag collection after Labor Day weekend.
