Alder Paulson’s Updates

Last week's meetings and Meadowlands Public Input Opportunities

August 13, 2019 8:24 AM

Hi everyone,

Thank you to those who attended last week's public meetings.

Please find a copy of the Meadowlands proposal PowerPoint here.

As mentioned, there is opportunity for public comment on the Meadowlands proposal at the August 26, 2019 Plan Commission meeting, which begins at 5:30 pm at the City County Building. UPDATE: the Meadowlands proposal is NOT coming before the Plan Commission on August 26. It is tentatively referred to the October 28, 2019 meeting.

Comments can also be emailed to the Plan Commission in advance to be shared with the commissioners. If you've already sent me your thoughts, these will also be sent to Plan Commission for consideration.

If you have comments about the design of the buildings only, this can also be provided at Urban Design Commission this Wednesday, August 14, 4:30 pm at the Madison Municipal Building, room 153. This meeting is solely focused on design. I will be there to share some feedback and to inform the body of neighborhood response and my objections to the proposal.

As previously mentioned, I have concerns about the lack of public transit and other amenities in the proposed location for the Meadowlands.

Switching gears, here are some of the takeaways from last week's follow-up meeting with The Harmony Apartments:

  • Terrell Walter representing Royal Capital Group, the owner of the Harmony Apartments, provided the following updates:

    • Cameras have not been installed yet, but they are reviewing proposals. Cameras will be installed both inside and outside the buildings.

    • A community meeting was held with Harmony residents the previous week, and letters have been sent to residents explaining that it is a violation of Madison ordinance to park in front of mailboxes as it prevents mail from being delivered.

    • A survey is being sent to residents this month to collect information on what programming would be useful. The Harmony will be partnering with organizations that will deliver this programming.

  • Assistant City Attorney Jennifer Zilavy explained that The Harmony has been responsive to her communications and willing to work with the city to make improvements.

  • Additionally, it was mentioned that there are volunteer opportunities available. I will follow-up with the apartment manager for more information on the types of volunteer options and who to contact about them.

Since this meeting, Assistant Attorney Zilavy's office has reached out to Royal Capital Group and given a deadline of August 31, 2019 for installation of the cameras.

Thank you.
