Alder Paulson’s Updates

Development updates and vehicle registration fee

October 28, 2019 10:28 PM

Hi everyone,

A few quick updates on developments in our community.

Ace Apartments (current site of the vacant Cottage Grove Road Sentry)

Ace Apartments was approved unanimously by Plan Commission with these conditions (beginning on p.9). There are no other approvals needed for this project. The project is scheduled to commence construction in spring 2020, with completion anticipated in spring 2021.

Meadowlands Multi-Family Residences (Milwaukee Street proposal east of Sprecher Road)

Meadowlands Multi-Family Residences was approved with these conditions (beginning on p.11) as well as the ones I provided below. I voted against it due to the limited transit and services in this area, but managed to add these conditions:

  • The developer must submit the complete management and security plan;

  • Provide activities for children, including the playground and indoor game room proposed;

  • Provide the proposed 1,400 square foot dedicated space for services.

Making these conditions of approval adds an additional level of accountability. The developer team has already provided a management and security plan overview and met with the Madison Police Department.

Meadowlands will now go to the November 5 Common Council meeting for approval, and will go back to the Urban Design Commission to receive final approval.

Vehicle Registration Fee

I have heard from many people wanting to know how I will vote on the vehicle registration fee. I have been looking for ways to reduce the fee, but I am not optimistic about finding a way to eliminate it altogether.

Alder Furman created helpful overviews of both the operating budget and the vehicle registration fee.

Tuesday, October 29 (tomorrow), there will be a special Common Council meeting to vote on approving the $40 vehicle registration fee.

Additional resources on the budget and the vehicle registration fee:

Lindsay
