Oak Park Place proposals at Urban Design Commission this week
Oak Park Place has proposed developing a 12-unit townhome at 5818 Gemini Drive that was previously approved in 2006, and a 99-unit age restricted, senior housing multifamily development at 5817 Halley Way that was previously approved in 2015.
They reviewed these plans at a recent virtual neighborhood meeting. Watch a video of this meeting.
These plans will be reviewed by the Urban Design Commission this week on Wednesday, December 1, 2021 at 4:30 pm. The Plan Commission will review them on December 13, 2021; and by the Common Council on January 4, 2022.

Jeffrey Clay Erlanger Civility in Public Discourse Award Winner is Lisa Peyton-Caire
Mayor Satya Rhodes-Conway announced that Lisa Peyton-Caire is the recipient of the 2021 Jeffrey Clay Erlanger Civility in Public Discourse Award.
The award was created by the Mayor and the Common Council to honor Madison residents who exemplify Jeff Erlanger's model of fairness, openness, and civility in public discourse. Jeff, who passed away in 2007, was committed to public service. He understood that through civil debate and effective representation, those with varying opinions could come together on how to solve issues within the community. Mr. Erlanger served on the City of Madison's Economic Development Commission and chaired the Commission on People with Disabilities as well as the Board of Directors of the Community Living Alliance.

New City-Wide Medallion Hunt Announced December 1-10
?Storyteller-in-Residence Andi Cloud invites Madison residents to hunt for a hand-made medallion in City of Madison parks. The clear, acrylic medallion has the Great Seal of the Ho-Chunk Nation engraved and is hidden within a City of Madison public park. Clues will be published online starting Wednesday, December 1, 2021. A new clue will appear daily through Friday, December 10, 2021, unless the medallion is found before that date. The person who finds the medallion will get to keep it and will also win a $50 gift card! Learn more about how to participate online at madpl.org/medallionhunt.
Event - Wisconsin Book Festival Presents Patty Loew for Seventh Generation Earth Ethics December 9, 7 pm
In partnership with the Wisconsin Book Festival, author Patty Loew will appear live on Crowdcast to discuss her book, Seventh Generation Earth Ethics, and the increasing pressures to turn Indigenous lands into "sacrifice zones"--geographic areas that are permanently affected by environmental damage.
Event - Being Hinu: Growing Up Ho-Chunk in the 20th Century
This Tuesday, Dec. 14, Andi Cloud wraps up her Storyteller Residency by getting personal! The virtual event, Being Hinu: Growing Up Ho-Chunk in the 20th Century, will provide a look into Andi's life, including pivotal moments where she learned her tribe's ways and started to define what the Ho-Chunk life means to her.
New service - Tech Assistance Available at the Library
Two library locations are offering free tech repair for tablets, laptops, and phones. Drop-in programs hosted at Lakeview and Meadowridge libraries.
New service - Winter Mending at Central Library
Helpful sewers from the Sewing Machine Project are offering free, onsite mending services at Central Library every Thursday, from 10 am - 12 pm throughout December and January (not available Dec. 23). They can mend clothing, coats, and any other fabric-related repairs, with the exception of zippers. No sign-up required.

Dane County Continues Face Covering Order Until January 3, 2022
Order adds exception for fully-vaccinated groups of people
Public Health Madison & Dane County issued Face Covering Emergency Order #5, effective at 12:01 am on November 27, 2021. The Order requires face coverings among people ages two and older when in most enclosed spaces open to the public where other people are present. The order will expire on January 3, 2022.
