Alder Rummel’s Updates

D6 Items of Interest Week of November 28, 2016

November 27, 2016 8:25 PM

Highlights this week include the quarterly Garver Feed Mill update at Monday's Board of Estimates meeting. The item may go into closed session. On November 17, the Dept of Treasury announced that 120 community development financial institutions/CDFIs were selected to receive a record  $7B in allocations for federal New Market Tax credits. Allocatees will be looking for shovel ready projects to invest in over the next weeks and months in order to receive tax benefits. The Baum team has contacted many of the CDFIs about the Garver project, so now we wait.

On Tuesday November 29, the Ped/Bike/Motor Vehicle Commission is seeking public comments for review of intersections that need traffic signals with the decision about priorities coming at their Jan 24 meeting. Public comments are welcomed.

The two 800 block south E Washington projects - Cosmos with the Frank Productions music venue and Spark, the American Family office building with Starting Block - will be at Urban Design Commission on Wednesday November 30.  I will be holding a neighborhood meeting to get feedback on the two projects on Wednesday December 7 at Wil-Mar Neighborhood Center from 7-9p. District 2 residents will also be notified. The staff report should be in Legistar by Tuesday at the latest.

Also on Wednesday, join Alder Verveer and me for the first Public Information Meeting for the corridor study of John Nolen Drive and Blair St from North Shore Dr to E Washington Ave. It will be held in the Monona Terrace Hall of Ideas H starting at 6p. There will be a brief presentation at 7p followed by a needs and goals exercise for interested participants. City staff and the engineering consultant will be available to discuss the corridor study and answer questions.

The Local Food Committee will meet on Thursday December 1 to discuss  the Public Market site design and get updates on Governance, Funding, and MarketReady Program from staff and consultants. The architecture team will be on hand to review the comments about the three options presented last month at the community meeting.

Also on Thursday December 1, join Alder Palm and me to learn more about Gorman and Co's proposal for Grandfamily Housing located at 2057 Winnebago at Union Corners. The concept targets grandfamilies and kinship families, in which a grandparent or relative serves as primary caregiver to a child. The meeting will he held at Holy Cross Lutheran Church, 2670 Milwaukee St at 6:30p  The Common Council recently approved  Madison Grandfamily at Union Corners application for City of Madison Affordable Housing Funds to leverage points in their WHEDA tax credit application in early 2017.
