D6 Items of Interest Week of May 21, 2018

May 18, 2018 9:03 PM

Highlights: The vote to override the Mayor's veto of the Winnebago St reconstruction plans and specs failed to get 14 votes. The Engineers will go back to the drawing board and restart the public review process when they have a concept to present. I will ask them to look at this street segment as part of a corridor approach:  Union Corners, the bike path intersections at Riverside/Yahara River/Thornton all the way to John Nolen/Blair. Stay tuned.

The City of Madison's Draft Comprehensive Plan is available for public review and comment at imaginemadison.civicomment.org.  The Plan is the result of Imagine Madison, a community engagement process that reached over 15,000 Madisonians.  The Comprehensive Plan is the City's high-level plan for the future.  It includes recommendations regarding land use, transportation, housing, economic development, parks and open space, cultural resources, and a variety of services. The primary function of the Plan is to guide growth and development in the city over the next 20 years. Community feedback and priorities guided the Plan's goals, strategies, and actions.  Several key recommendations of the Comprehensive Plan include transit improvements, more housing choices, creation of family-supporting jobs, and focusing future growth on infill and redevelopment priority areas. This Plan was developed alongside the community, with feedback from thousands of Madisonians along the way. There will be a public hearing June 4 at the Plan Commission, 5:30p in room 201 City County Building (CCB). This will be a blueprint for growth. Please take a look at the draft plan and the future land use maps. We are in the final stages...
