Alder Rummel’s Updates

D6 Items of Interest Week of December 16, 2019

December 14, 2019 11:13 PM

Highlights: The city and consultant Legacy Architecture kicked off a concurrent process over two years to help the city rewrite the standards for the city's five historic districts and to write the city's first Historic District Preservation Plan with a focus on underrepresented communities. We are nearing the end of the journey.  On Tuesday the Landmarks Ordinance Review Committee, an alder only committee, will continue to slog through the draft rewrite of the historic district standards and on Wednesday the Historic Preservation Plan Advisory Committee hopes to finalize the draft Historic District Preservation Plan. On Thursday, please join me and Alder Grant Foster for the second Garver Path Public Information Meeting. Tell us which of two alternatives to construct a new pedestrian shared use path that would connect the existing Capital City Path at Sugar Avenue northward to Milwaukee St you like the best.

Garver Path Public Information Meeting

6p Olbrich Botanical Gardens Evjue Commons room 3330 Atwood Ave

You are invited to attend a public involvement meeting for the Garver Path project. The City of Madison Engineering in conjunction with WisDOT and FHWA are proposing to construct a new 2800-foot long pedestrian shared use path that would connect the existing Capital City Path at Sugar Avenue northward to Milwaukee Street. Three structural elements are proposed as part of the design including a bridge through the northern limits of the project, a bridge replacement at Ivy Street, and a new bridge crossing over Starkweather Creek. Construction is currently scheduled for 2021.

The meeting will be an open-house format from 6-8 pm, with a formal presentation beginning at 6:15.

Two alternative path alignments will be presented. One alternative would reconfigure Starkweather Drive to a one-way street. Additional project information is available at Attendees will have an opportunity to review project displays, ask project related questions, and provide input during the meeting.

If you are unable to attend on December 19th, you can contribute comments about the Garver Path Project by contacting Reid Stiteley or Aaron Steger by January 10, 2020 at:
