Transportation

The Planning Division contains both the Transportation Policy and Planning Section and the Madison Area Transportation Planning Board.

The Transportation Policy and Planning Section (TPPS) focuses on planning a healthy, sustainable, 21st Century mobility system for the City of Madison. To do this, they look at improvements for roadways, corridors, transit systems and bicycle and pedestrian systems. They also particiapate in multiple planning efforts throughout the City of Madison. The TPPS also staffs and works to implement the work plan of the Long Range Transportation Planning Committee.

Recently the TPPS completed Madison in Motion, the City of Madison's Sustainable Transportation Master Plan.

The Madison Area Transportation Planning Board is the federally designated Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO) for the Madison Urban Area. As the MPO, it is the policy body responsible for cooperative, comprehensive regional transportation planning and decision making for the Madison Metropolitan Planning Area.
