The Mayor has once again asked the Community Development Division to lead an effort in which all City Departments are encouraged to host a high school age intern with the Wanda Fullmore Youth Internship Program. With your support, we will be able to place up to 40 youth interns into 8-week paid summer internships in City Departments. Training and support will come from the non-profit Common Wealth Development at no cost to the City Departments.  The purpose of this announcement is to recruit interested City staff to host and supervise the youth interns during the summer of 2019.

The goals of this program are to provide high school age youth on the job experience, exposure to the world of work, career awareness through placement in a City Department, and direct support from a non-profit intermediary.

Benefits to City Departments include positive public relations and connections with youth from the broader community, energy and new ideas from youth perspectives, work on special projects, opportunities for learning through teaching, and an ability to invest in our community’s goals to address disparities in employment and educational success.

If you are interested in hosting and supervising a youth intern, please talk with your supervisor and/or Department/Division Head. For departments that invested in an intern in 2018, a second year is possible if the youth is available.
