Fire Station 6 Remodel & Addition
Latest Update
February 01, 2023
The redesign process has explored numerous options for the fire station and work to develop the best option for South Madison continues. Once a plan is identified, the project will move through the city approval and bidding process.
Project Overview
The remodel and addition project includes the construction of a first floor addition and interior renovations to a small portion of the first floor and the entire second floor. The small first floor addition would provide spaces for storage, laundry room, workshop, and hose storage. The first floor renovations include the construction of a comfort room, replacement of kitchen cabinets and appliances, update of some finishes and MEP systems. The second floor renovations include the addition of sleeping chambers, restrooms, sauna, study areas, sitting areas, and Officer’s suite.

-
Promoting the health and wellness of the fire fighters
-
Creating a functional and efficient space for fire fighters and the community
-
Reducing building energy costs and long term maintenance
The schematic design was presented to each of the three Fire Station 6 crews to get their specific feedback about the function and layout. The resulting design is the combination of the firefighter’s goals and the feedback and the design team’s approach to meet City sustainability goals. The design team is moving into the Design Development phase and will continue to refine the design and align with the allocated budget.
The Fire Station 6 bids came in over budget so the project is being reduced in scope through a redesign process. Once a new project design is selected, the project will move back through the city approval process and bidding is anticipated to occur in January 2023
