The City of Madison is in the process of designing a replacement for the Lake Wingra Dam. The dam controls the water level of Lake Wingra and the flow rate into Wingra Creek. The city has hired Ayres Associates to do the actual design.  Construction is planned for late 2008 or 2009.

30% Design Plans

Prior to beginning the design, the city hired Strand Associates, Inc. to perform a study of the existing dam structure to determine if it should be replaced or just repaired. The report recommended replacement.

A scale model was built to demonstrate a proposed design.

The final design will be similar to this one, but with only one level (stage), rather than the two that are shown here.
