Where are you stationed?
Station 10 (Troy Drive) on the ‘A’ shift.
What was your previous position?
I was an Apparatus Engineer at Station 12.
How long have you been with the MFD?
What do you like about your station and/or the territory?
Station 10 is a diverse community. From low-income housing to lakefront property, elderly facilities to elementary schools, there are many different situations you’re put into and have to adapt to. That's what makes this territory fun to work for.
What are some new challenges you’ve encountered in your new position?
Now that I am a Lieutenant, I have a different role to play than in my previous position. I have to see the big picture and make sure that the members I supervise are safe and performing their tasks. I have to manage the entire scene and make sure we have appropriate resources for the call. This is a challenge that I enjoy and one of the main reasons I wanted to be a Lieutenant.
What’s been one of the most rewarding experiences of your career so far?
I was fortunate to have been a member on three special teams over my 21 years: Hazardous Material Team, Heavy Urban Rescue Team, and Rapid Intervention Team. Being a member of these specialty teams was very rewarding and taught me skills I did not previously have.
