New Painting at Station 6 Celebrates ‘Unity Through Community’

A new masterpiece now brightens up the apparatus bay at Fire Station 6 thanks to local artist Betty Groom.

When the firefighters at Station 6 decommissioned some old maps at the firehouse last summer, they decided to take the opportunity to turn trash into treasure. One of the old boards that once housed a territory map soon became a blank canvas and a portal for creative expression.

Centered on the theme “Unity Through Community,” Station 6 put a call out to local artists to submit their proposals. The winning design depicts the community joining hands together in the foreground with Ladder 6 and Medic 6 emerging from the fire station. “Unity Through Community” is written above the bay doors. Station 6’s logo is seen in the upper lefthand corner of the work.

Station 6 is proud to serve the south side of Madison from W. Badger Road. We thank Betty Groom for sharing her talent with us, and for helping us celebrate our commitment to our community.
