Update: 

The natural gas leak has been contained, and access to the South Point Road drop-off site is reopened.

At 1:15 p.m., Engine Co. 12 was dispatched to 402 South Point Road after a contractor reportedly struck a natural gas line, causing a significant leak. Firefighters and Streets Division personnel established a safe perimeter and blocked public access to the site until MGE technicians could put a stop to the leak. There were no injuries or further incidents reported. The leak was contained at around 2:00 p.m., and public access to the site was restored around 2:05 p.m.

The City Of Madison's drop-off site at 402 South Point Road is temporarily closed due to a significant natural gas leak. Firefighters on scene. In the meantime, find other City drop-off locations on the City Streets Division website.
