East Side Fire Under Investigation
Engine Co. 8 and other east side fire crews responded to the 3800 block of East Washington Avenue for reports of smoke coming from a nearby property. Smoke was seen in the area as firefighters approached the address, and a MPD officer flagged down the crew. Engine 8 performed a 360-degree survey of the exterior and located the fire, which had extended up the exterior siding and across the soffit. Engine 8 and Medic 8 performed fire attack and overhaul as Ladder Co. 8 performed search and rescue inside. After achieving initial knockdown, additional fire was discovered in various void spaces that were difficult to access. Some interior areas of the building were affected as firefighters continued firefighting efforts and overhaul. Damage is estimated at around $15,000.
The property owner was contacted and notified of the fire. Nobody was inside at the time of the incident. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
