Lake Rescue Team Called To Lake Monona Overnight
The Madison Fire Department’s Lake Rescue Team, Medic 6, Ladder 6, and Command Car 31 were dispatched to the area of John Nolen Drive and Lakeside Street overnight after a man fell into Lake Monona, self-rescued, and flagged down a passerby to call for help.
When paramedics arrived first on scene, the man explained he was downtown for a basketball game earlier, went for a walk on the ice of Lake Monona, and fell into the water. Now showing signs of cold exposure, he was transported to the hospital by Medic 6.
The man reported he believed a friend of his was walking behind him at the time, but now his friend was missing.
The Lake Rescue Team placed its airboat in the water and began a sweep along the shoreline and the open water. Their search took them to Monona Terrace and back. There were no signs of someone out on the ice or in the water.
Madison Police remained on scene to continue to investigate the whereabouts of the man’s friend. The MFD has no further updates on this incident at this time.
