Update

(second update)

MPD officers and detectives gleaned more information from student witnesses yesterday regarding the Tuesday afternoon BB gun incident on the school bus.

Several said a 13-year-old suspect was passing a BB gun around to friends, and that the suspect fired it several times at the floor of the bus, or at backpacks.

A 14-year-old girl – who had not been identified as a victim until yesterday – told police she was shot in the finger while getting off of the bus on Laurie Dr. The girl said the suspect was firing from a window at departing students. She put her hand to her face, in order to protect it, and that is when her finger was struck. The girl's mother told the MPD the BB could have easily hit her daughter's eye had she not put up her hand.

A 13-year-old girl – who was the listed victim in the original Incident Report – got off a short time later. She also said the boy fired from a bus window at disembarking students and that she was struck in the arm.

(first update)

MPD officers, working in concert with school staff, located the BB gun inside a backpack. The backpack was in a locked locker.
