Incident Report for Case #2020-257056

Incident Type

Weapons Violation

Incident Date

07/15/2020 - 12:23 PM

Address

Watts Rd. (at Gammon Rd.)

Update

A 69-year-old Madison man, who had exited the West Beltline Highway onto S. Whitney Way around 12:30 p.m., contacted the MPD last evening after discovering two bullet holes in the bumper of his van. The victim remembers hearing what he thought to be fireworks, and now realizes was an untended target of gun violence.

Detectives have pieced together a chronology of events from yesterday's gunshot spree.

It started at the BP gas station, 699 S. Gammon Rd., with one man firing a handgun at another man. The victim fled the area in a car with the suspect following in another. The chase went from the West Beltline Highway to Whitney Way, where both cars exited. They next sped along Schroeder Rd., to Hathaway Dr., to Woodington Way, to Frisch Rd. and onto Raymond Rd.

Shell casings were recovered in several locations along the route.

The Violent Crime Unit's investigation continues.
