2017: The Dangerous Person

Many states, including Wisconsin, are poised to spend tens of millions of dollars on mental health care in order to lower the incidence of violence in our communities, and to prevent mass shootings. The debate about the relationship of violence to mental illness is ongoing, impassioned, and generally full of erroneous assumptions. In the meantime, mental health workers and law enforcement personnel often receive little training in how to do good violence risk assessments and how to keep everyone safe in the process. This workshop is designed to correct misconceptions about violence and mental illness, and help everyone do their job more safely and confidently.
