Metro Service Update
Metro reduced service rather significantly when Covid-19 hit back in March 2020. Then in August, service was increased slightly to account for an anticipated ridership increase. As of today, we still have a number of routes that have not returned and remain suspended.
In February 2021, Metro and the City of Madison Transportation Commission will hold a public hearing to discuss a handful of proposed service adjustments. Service adjustments are proposed for Routes 2, 6/26, 10, 27, 38 and 81. Learn more.
Bus Stop Closed Signs
Metro has not removed any inactive/ suspended bus stop locations as service could potentially be restored to these locations once the Network Redesign Plan has been completed and the effects of the pandemic have subsided.
However, with winter weather approaching, Metro has posted 'BUS STOP CLOSED' signs at all locations that currently do not have active service so riders are not stuck out in the cold wondering. Please note that these signs do not mean service has been permanently removed or that a particular route is never coming back.
Network Redesign Plan
Metro has hired a consultant to review all of our service in an effort to make routes operate faster and more efficiently, as well as incorporate them into our upcoming bus rapid transit system. Once this process is fully underway, there will be a number of opportunities for the community to give input on how bus service should look and where it is most needed.
Passengers are encouraged to continue to provide feedback on our service.
