State St. cases part of crime spree investigation

Madison Police officers, working in partnership with the Middleton Police Department, took two suspects into custody last Wednesday immediately following an armed robbery at Klinke Cleaners, 1003 North Gammon Rd.

Mr. “Jack” Ikegwuonu, age 28, and his twin brother, Mr. William Ikegwuonu, were arrested on University Ave. by a team of officers who were looking for a specific SUV that had been connected to the suspects.
It had been initially identified through surveillance images as the probable getaway vehicle in recent armed robberies, including two that took place on State St. A lead Madison detective obtained a warrant to attach a GPS device on the suspect’s SUV just prior to the Middleton case. Following the robbery, the MPD was able to monitor the SUV’s direction of travel as it drove toward downtown Madison.
The brothers Ikegwuonu were arrested and tentatively charged by Middleton Police for the Wednesday Klinke Cleaners robbery. A handgun, cash and other evidence were found in the SUV.
The MPD has identified the brothers as suspects in four other recent holdups:

  1. November 13, 2014 – Madison Modern Market, 310 State St.
  2. November 14, 2014 – Cricket Wireless, 3868 E. Washington Ave.
  3. November 18, 2014 – Life Is Good, 514 State St.
  4. November 21, 2014 - Klinke Cleaners, 6698 Odana Rd.

Additional charges are likely.
The investigation indicates much of the money taken during the commission of these crimes was being used to purchase heroin.
