City Engineering launches podcast, new way to connect with residents
Tuesday, August 20, 2019 - 6:56pm
The City of Madison Engineering Division is proud to announce the launch of a new resource for residents of Madison to learn about infrastructure in a matter of 15-20 minutes a day. “Everyday Engineering” is a new podcast now available on Apple iTunes and GooglePlay. A podcast is a digital audio file anyone can download, typically available as a series, new installments that subscribers can sign up.
The “Everyday Engineering” podcast is a 15-20 minute audio clip where the Engineering Division’s Public Information Officer Hannah Mohelnitzky hosts engineers to talk about infrastructure topics that impact the community every day. In each interview, Mohelnitzky will have an in-depth conversation about infrastructure topics, explained simply, so residents can learn and apply what’s covered in the podcast to everyday life.
“The residents of Madison are hungry for information, especially on projects that impact their everyday life. We want this podcast to be useful and a new resource for anyone to listen on the way to work, in the car or on the bus. It’s a way for us to give information residents have been asking for,” Mohelnitzky said. “Engineering topics aren’t always the most simple to understand, but in this podcast, we take those topics and work through them in an easy, digestible way!”
The first episode is about historic flooding Madison experienced, where Mohelnitzky hosted engineers Jojo O’Brien and Phil Gaebler.
“I’m excited that Engineering has more ways to connect with residents,” O’Brien said. “It’s been fun creating a podcast that brings Engineering’s most relevant topics to folks in a digestible, entertaining format that can be enjoyed on the go! In the flooding episode, we cover everything from what happened in Aug. 2018 to what anyone can do to flood-proof their home.”
This is the first podcast for the Engineering Division, and second regular podcast in the City residents can expect biweekly. The podcast will post every second and fourth Wednesday of the month covering a wide range of topics such as:
- Flooding, what happened and where we’re going
- Public Right of Way
- Making solar a realistic option
- Leaf management
- Pipe (sewer, storm) problems
- Salt use on roads, sidewalks, streets
Make sure not to miss a podcast as soon as it is posted, by following the Engineering Division’s new Facebook page, another resource for residents to learn about what Engineering does and also a spot to ask questions in an open collaborative space Engineering maintains and looks forward to connecting with the public.
If you have a question or topic you’d like covered on “Everyday Engineering” email Hannah Mohelnitzky.
