Over the last couple of weeks there has been an increase in the number of vehicle break-ins at the Park and Ride (13 Collins Ct.). Most reports indicate that a window has been broken out to gain entry. Stereo systems have been removed from dashes, and smaller electronics have been taken: iPods, cameras, GPS systems. Thieves have also targeted backpacks, cash, wallets, and checkbooks.

Also, there have been several vehicle break-ins in the area of Parkwood Lane, which is north of Milwaukee Street, near American Family. This area was hit Thursday night into Friday morning last week, and again late last night into early this morning. Vehicles had windows broken out and thousands of dollars worth of items stolen, including rims, tools and electronic equipment. The Madison Police Department is investigating these thefts and encourages anyone with information to call Madison Area Crime Stoppers at 266-6014. We also encourage citizens to remove valuables from vehicles, or lock them in the trunk: out of site. Items left on seats, or in plain view can be appealing to thieves, and are easily accessible once entry is gained. If you have been a victim, we ask that you -at a minimum - make a self-report so that we have a more accurate number of actual break-ins that are occurring.

Also, if you notice suspicious activity, please contact dispatch (911) at the time that activity is occurring so that police have a better chance of making contact with lawbreakers. We appreciate the community's cooperation in dealing with these crimes.
