Officers & Citizens To Be Recognized Thursday Night

Some 80 individuals and organizations will be recognized Thursday night, May 19th, at the Madison Police Department's annual Awards Ceremony. Recipients are an eclectic group, ranging from veteran officers to everyday citizens, who were in the right place at the right time to help their community.

More than 25 officers will be getting life saving medals, while others will be receive certificates for problem solving or outstanding service.

Citizen awards will be presented to a host of individuals and companies. Some intervened to help crime victims; others pitched in to bolster neighborhoods; one group helped former gang members remove tattoos; while several businesses assisted in outfitting the MPD's bicycle patrol, or aided in making the Capital City a safer place to peddle.

We will honor a man who gave us a horse, an officer whose partner is a dog, and two Monona Police officers and a credit union teller who joined forces to rescue a kidnapped Madison man.

The ceremony commences at 6:00 p.m. at Monona Terrace.
