MPD South District CPT Invites Public To Upcoming Events

The Madison Police South District Community Policing Team (CPT) in conjunction with the University Of Wisconsin Space Place, and the Madison Astronomical Society proudly present Universe in the Park. The event begins this Friday, April 23, at 8 p.m. in the historic Olin Park Pavilion, 1156 Olin-Turville Court.

A presentation on current astronomical events by Jim Lattis of the Space Place will be followed by a guided tour of the night sky. Astronomical Society members will be on hand with telescopes and a wealth of knowledge to share. This is a family friendly gathering, which we hope many will come and enjoy.

Universe in the Park is one of a series of events planned at Olin-Turville Park intended to enhance community involvement in our ongoing efforts to improve access to this great natural Madison asset.

The South District CPT has also planned a series of neighborhood bike rides: dubbed "Bike with a Cop."

The second of thee rides takes place Tuesday, April 27th, from 5:30 p.m. until about 7:00 p.m. This ride starts and ends at Zu Zu Café, 1136 Drake St. It is intended primarily for Vilas Neighborhood Association residents, as they will be giving CPT members a tour of their neighborhood.

"Bike with a Cop" rides are designed to promote community building and idea sharing between neighbors and officers. All ages are welcome. Children should be accompanied by an adult, and all riders should wear bike helmets.

Upcoming bike rides are currently planned for the Regent Neighborhood, and for the Waunona / Bridge /LakePoint Neighborhood. Dates for these events will be posted soon.
