Wisconsin Adult School Crossing Guard Recognition Week

The Madison Police Department, in honor of Wisconsin Adult School Crossing Guard Recognition Week, January 9-13, 2012, would like to invite you to join us, and our area law enforcement partners, in thanking our school crossing guards for their dedicated service to the schoolchildren of Madison and surrounding areas.

This year marks the twelfth consecutive year for this event, although crossing guards have been providing this invaluable service to the children of Madison, and their parents, for many more years. Adult school crossing guards in Madison have been assisting children and keeping them safe in their journeys to and from school for over 45 years! Crossing guards provide this important service throughout the year, two or three times each day, performing their duties in even the most inclement conditions.

Next week, please take the time to acknowledge these dedicated servants for their service. Stop and show your appreciation personally, or just offer a smile and friendly wave as you drive. Motorists can also do their part by obeying all traffic laws, particularly in and around school crossings. Slow down, put away cell phones and other distractions while driving, and be especially vigilant for children, crossing guards, pedestrians and bicyclists in these areas. Other ways to show your appreciation to our crossing guards can be found at Thank you for doing your part to keep Madison's roadways safe.
