Madison, WI – Artist-in-Residence Ash Armenta, The Madison Arts Commission, and The Bubbler at Madison Public Library are pleased to announce a series of fun, free, creative events at the Thurber Park residency space.
Ash Armenta (they/them) is a print media artist from the Bay Area of California and a 2022 MFA graduate of the University of Wisconsin-Madison. In 2018 Ash opened Little Giant Collective, a member-owned cooperative print studio in Santa Cruz, Ca. Ash is the 2022-2023 Artist-in-Residence at Thurber Park, and has prepared an exciting series of free community engagement opportunities.

Coffee with Neighbors: Thurber Park Open House: The following Sundays 9-11:30am, be sure
to stop by Thurber Park (3325 Thurber Ave) to chat with Ash and sip coffee with neighbors. All ages welcome. Masking inside the space is encouraged.

Thurber Studio Classes:
Paper Marbling, Elementary youth-adult
Wednesday April 19th 7-9pm
An easy introduction to marbling with paper, acrylic inks and water. Create your own custom multicolor abstract patterns and experiment with the results on paper!
Hand Carved Stamp paper and fabric printing
Monday, April 24th 7-9pm
An introduction to carving soft rubber stamps and printing them on a variety of fabrics such as T-shirts, pants, and bandanas. Emphasis is placed on tool safety and showing you tips and tricks of how to start carving and printing at home.
DIY Screenprint: Tips and trucks for successful at home t-shirt and poster printing
Wednesday May 3rd 7-9pm
Have you ever wanted to screenprint at home but feel intimidated by the process or have had inconsistent results after trying? This beginner to intermediate class will focus on showing you some foundations of successful home poster and tshirt screenprinting. We will be using a budget friendly DIY Speedball kit.

About the Thurber Park Artist Residency
The Madison Arts Commission and the Bubbler at Madison Public Library launched the Thurber Park Artist Residency in 2019, which is based out of a dedicated art studio at Thurber Park [3325 Thurber Ave]. The Artist-in-Residence has access to a rent-free studio space for 11-months, and receives a stipend. Additionally, the artist has the opportunity to create an outdoor public artwork for consideration by the City of Madison. The Artist-in-Residence works closely with The Bubbler at Madison Public Library to engage the local community through open studio days, community workshops, or other strategies determined by the artist and residency administrators. The Thurber Park Artists Residency is currently funded by the Madison Arts Commission through the City of Madison’s Municipal Arts Fund, and The Town of Blooming Grove.
