Firefighters Check On Gasoline Leak On West Side

Engine 9 was called to a report of a leaking gas tank in a west side driveway. The crew met with a woman who said she heard a “thump” while she was driving away. It turned out her Jeep Liberty’s gas tank had broken loose and was dragged “a couple of blocks” to the driveway. Gasoline had spilled onto the driveway and the nearby grass, though much of it had already evaporated.

Firefighters monitored the air in the immediate vicinity of the spill and consulted with the MFD HazMat team to confirm there was no health hazard, and the vehicle was towed from the driveway.
