Four Displaced Following Fire on Webb Ave.
Updates
Incident Details
The Madison Fire Department responded to the 3100 block of Webb Avenue early Wednesday morning for a fire that resulted in approximately $50,000 of damage and displaced four people from an apartment there.
Smoke and flames were visible from a block away as firefighters rolled up to the scene. Firefighters pulled an attack line and had the fire knocked down by 5:41 a.m. Crews checked the soffits, siding, and interior walls for fire extension. A second-story window and parts of the attic were affected by the fire, and the adjacent unit is not habitable at this time.
Madison Metro provided a warming bus, and a nearby Department of Corrections building also opened its doors to occupants needing a warm place to stay until they can return to the building.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation. All occupants safely evacuated the building prior to firefighters' arrival, and nobody was injured. Displaced residents are receiving assistance from the American Red Cross.
