Oil Heating on Stove Causes $500.00 Damage

Firefighters from Ladder 2 responded to the 5000 block of Siggelkow Road for an alarm investigation around 4:40 pm, Wednesday night.

When firefighter arrived, they spoke to the resident who said they extinguished the fire prior to their arrival.

It was found that a resident was heating oil on the stove when the oil ignited, causing damage to the exhaust fan. There was slight smoke damage to the kitchen area.

The occupant was able to return to their apartment. The occupant was also educated about the dangers of inattentive cooking and when cooking with oil, always have a properly fitting lid close by.

Total fire loss was estimated at $500.00
