Office Hours Update, Task Force on Government Structure Open House and More...

An update on my open office hours for September, upcoming Spring Harbor Watershed Study Meeting, information on an upcoming open house about the structure of Madison City Government, next meeting on bus rapid transit and information on National Voter Registration Day!

We're in budget season (more on this in the near future) and the Task Force for Government Structure is finalizing it's work so it's been an incredibly busy September. Due to a scheduling conflict, I have to cancel office hours on Thursday, September 26th. I will be hosting office hours tomorrow morning at the West Side Community Market:

I've been attending many of the watershed study focus groups over the last few weeks throughout the district. The turnout has been great and the feedback has been incredibly helpful to the process. Engineering was finally able to coordinate a date that works for a Spring Harbor Neighborhood Association Focus Group for the Spring Harbor Watershed Study:

I'm part of the Task Force for Government Structure and have been spending a lot of time on this issue. I hope you are able to attend:

The City of Madison Common Council created a Task Force on Government Structure ("TFOGS") in 2018 to ask whether changes to city government could help the City work more effectively for all residents, specifically including residents of color and low income. 

This 11 member committee has been at work for the past 18 months discussing questions related to the powers and duties of the Mayor's Office, the Common Council, and the City's Boards, Commissions, and Committees.  Additionally, the TFOGS is looking very closely at whether the city's current processes for obtaining resident engagement and participation effectively solicit and encourage resident input on city decision making. 

As part of its work, TFOGS has reached out to former government officials, city staff, and city residents.  As it prepares to issue a final report to the Mayor and Common Council, the TFOGS is holding a series of resident open houses.  The last open house will be held in late September.

In addition to the exhibits previously presented at the August 29th Public Meeting at the Senior Center, new exhibits will be shared illustrating a variety of BRT station types and transit amenities. Please attend and share your input!

BRT uses modern stations, larger specialized buses, dedicated lanes where feasible, and other enhancements to provide fast and affordable service to jobs, entertainment, and schools. BRT will complement existing Metro Transit routes and be our city's next big step toward a more sustainable local transit system.

On Tuesday, Sept. 24, the City of Madison will join hundreds of communities nationwide in celebrating National Voter Registration Day.

Founded in 2012, National Voter Registration Day is a non-partisan celebration of democracy focused on facilitating the right to vote.

Voters who have moved and have updated their name and address with the Division of Motor Vehicles have a convenient option for celebrating National Voter Registration Day at home: they can completely register online at myvote.wi.gov.

Proof of Address
Proof of address, either on paper or in an electronic format, is required for all voter registrations that are not completely submitted online (proof of address is verified with the DMV for online submissions). The following types of documents are acceptable as proof of address:

• Utility bill that covers a time frame within the past 90 days (water, gas, electric, cable, internet, landline or cellular phone)
• Bank or credit union statement
• Credit card statement or mortgage statement
• Current and valid Wisconsin driver license or Wisconsin identification card
• Paycheck or pay stub
• Document issued by a unit of government (this includes a public school, Madison College, or UW-Madison)
• Check issued by a unit of government
• Affidavit from an agency (public or private) providing homeless services
• Edgewood College fee statement, accompanied by an Edgewood College student ID
• Intake document from a residential care facility

The types of proof of address most commonly used in the City of Madison are Wisconsin driver license/ID cards, Madison Water Utility bills, Madison Gas & Electric bills, and UW-Madison documents.
