Weekend/Evening Rates

$5 is the maximum cost to park in the cashiered section of City-operated garages during each of the following periods:

6 p.m. to 5 a.m., Monday thru Friday

5 a.m. Saturday to 5 a.m. Sunday

5 a.m. Sunday to 5 a.m. Monday

Hourly rates are charged up to a maximum of $5. Vehicles parked before or after these periods will be charged the hourly rate for that location for the additional time.

Exceptions:

  • This rate is not valid in the metered section of State Street Capitol Garage.
  • This rate is not valid during special events when a flat fee of $5 is charged on entry.
  • This rate does not apply if you lose your entrance ticket.
  • During a declared snow emergency you may park in the cashiered sections of City-operated garages for NO CHARGE from 9 pm until 7 am. (See #5, below.)

Examples:

Example 1. You park in a garage after 6 p.m. on a Friday and leave on the following Sunday at 9 p.m. The rate would be calculated as follows:

6 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Saturday ($5)

5 a.m. Saturday to 5 a.m. Sunday ($5)

5 a.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday ($5)

Total Amount Due on Exit is $15

Example 2. You park at a garage with a rate of $1.00 per hour (State Street Capitol) from Sunday afternoon through Tuesday at noon. The rate would be calculated as follows:

Entrance after 5 a.m. Sunday to 5 a.m. Monday ($5)

5 a.m. Monday to 6 p.m. Monday (13 hours x $1 = $13)

6 p.m. Monday to 5 a.m. Tuesday ($5)

5 a.m. Tuesday to 12 p.m. Tuesday (7 hours x $1 = $7)

Total Amount Due on Exit is $30

Special Event Pay-on-Entry Rates

A $5 "Pay on Entry" fee will be charged for special event parking. A special event fee is charged when a large number of people are expected to exit the ramp at the same time. The purpose of collecting payment on entry is to speed the exit time of patrons after the event. (Collecting payment prior to the event, over a longer period of time, causes fewer back-ups.)

  • Uniformed employees collect payment from each vehicle before it enters the garage.
  • Payment must be made in cash.
  • Additional information or instruction may be given at the time of entry.
  • Check our Special Events Calendar before you leave your home to see if payment on entry is required.

Expect Delays!

There is no way to effectively eliminate lines in the midst of pedestrian and car traffic back-ups. We appreciate your patience and understanding during high volume times.

Lost Ticket Fee

If you lose your entrance ticket, you will be charged the daily lost ticket fee of $25 per day. Cashier or Pay-on-Foot Station will issue a receipt for payment of lost ticket fee.

If you later find your entrance ticket and wish to recover the difference between the fee paid and the amount you actually owed, send the original entrance ticket and the original receipt along with your name and address legibly printed to:

Madison Parking Division
215 Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd., Suite 100
P.O. Box 2986
Madison, WI  53701-2986

A refund will be mailed to you in approximately two to three weeks.

Winter Parking

During a declared Snow Emergency free parking is available between 9 p.m. and 7 a.m. in the cashiered sections of City-owned parking garages.

  • Vehicles parked before or after this period will be charged the hourly rate for that location for the additional time.
  • When parking in the garages overnight, do not park on the top level so this area can be plowed.
  • Be aware that vehicles stored in City garages longer than 48 hours are subject to being ticketed and towed.
  • Meters in lots and garages are enforced 24 hours per day, 7 days a week.
