Bird City
Madison Fun Bird and Nature Festival
UPDATE (06/02/2020): Based on criteria outlined in the Forward Dane plan, and the current reopening plan, the 8th Annual Bird & Nature Festival at Warner Park is canceled. This free annual event is co-sponsored by Madison Friends of Urban Nature (FUN) partner groups Madison Parks, Friends of Cherokee Marsh and other local friends and environmental groups and offers hands-on activities, educational exhibits and nature exploration. We look forward to bringing it back in 2021!

Bird City
In September 2013, Madison was recognized as a "Bird City" by the Bird City Wisconsin project. The program is modeled after the Arbor Day Foundations' "Tree City USA" program with the following goal:
To encourage all communities in Wisconsin to implement sound bird conservation practices by offering public recognition to those that succeed in (a) enhancing the environment for birds and (b) educate the public about the interactions between birds and people and about the contributions birds make to a healthy community.
As part of that education, we would like to make people aware of the Cats Indoors! initiative.
