Public Input Meeting - Olbrich Park Nature Play
Event Details
Madison Parks is installing a nature play area in Olbrich Park. Earlier in 2023, Parks crews removed the playground at Olbrich Park near Lakeland Ave. The typical lifespan of post and platform playground equipment is 20-30 years, and this playground was past the standard expected lifespan.
After review of the location and other traditional playgrounds nearby including, Elmside Circle Park, Olbrich Park (Garrison St), and Olbrich Park (Walter St.), the location was identified as an ideal nature play area location.
Nature play areas typically offer more open-ended play opportunities compared to conventional playgrounds. By providing natural materials and landscapes, children are encouraged to use their creativity and problem-solving skills to invent their own games and explore their surroundings. This approach fosters a sense of independence and self-directed learning, promoting cognitive and social development.
The community is invited to attend a public input meeting, where Parks staff will present concept plans for review and input.
