Allied Park Master Plan / Master Plan Implementation
Last Updated: 10/02/2017
Work is complete on the master plan development of Allied Park and an opening event was held on 9/29 at 4:30PM with Mayor Paul Soglin, Alder Maurice Cheeks, neighborhood leadership and parks staff on hand for a ribbon-cutting event followed by a hayride sponsored by Parks. A Community Meal at the Boys & Girls Club was held afterwards and was sponsored by the Allied Stakeholders NRT and Revival Pentecostal Church. Please enjoy this latest edition to the Allied community!
The City of Madison's contractor for wireless internet service completed the installation of the access point prior to IT staff connecting the "hotpot" service at the shelter on 9/29. The wifi service can be located under the address "Parks-wifi" and does not require a password.
The drinking fountain pedestal was connected on 9/26 and the basketball goals were completed the morning on 9/29 by Parks Construction staff along with the youth hoops along the alleyway. Fahrner Asphalt Sealers have striped the basketball courts for play this season and have color-coated and striped the four square courts on the alley. If the warm weather holds, the basketball courts can still be color coated this season (after the asphalt has fully cured - otherwise this will occur in spring 2018). All park elements are open and ready to be used!
The sun shelter at the park, completed in June, is open and available for use on a "first come, first serve" basis or reservations can be made by contacting the Parks office at (608) 266-4711.
The aprons connecting the park's alleyway to Gene Parks Place and Revival Ridge have been removed and replaced with terrace under a separate City of Madison Engineering contract.
Throughout the summer of 2016, Parks staff attended neighborhood-related events and hosted sessions with the youth and community at-large to get input on the new park's design. These opportunities helped to decide on the features that will be incorporated into the park!
Staff then took the Master Plan to the Board of Parks Commissioners for approval in early October along with the new name for the park, Allied Park. In November the Common Council and Plan Commission approved the rezoning of the lots to TR-C3 , which will facilitate the use of the lots as public park.
Parks staff will take the site plan through agency review in early 2017 and the improvements at the park will be constructed through a series of public works contracts to be bid beginning in early spring 2017, with construction starting in late May 2017!
