Brittingham Dog Park Improvements

Last Updated: 10/08/2019

Brittingham dog park is now open!

This spring Madison Parks installed synthetic dog park turf and other park amenities at Brittingham dog park. This is Madison's first public synthetic turf dog park!

This project included two public meetings with different options for the design of the dog park. Plans and specifications were advertised to bid on October 4th, 2018.  Construction is anticipated to begin in spring of 2019.

Synthetic turf specifically for dog parks is uniquely designed to accommodate heavy dog traffic. Synthetic dog turf does not have rubber infill, and includes resin containing silver which has antimicrobial properties. The dog turf has a perforated backing for drainage and several inches of granular base, as well as additional drainage to direct waste to the sanitary sewer to ensure that dog waste does not enter our lakes.

The park includes a new drinking fountain with ADA arm, doggy bowl, and hose bib for staff to clean the turf when necessary. Several irrigation heads are located within the turf which double as a mechanism to flush the water line each evening to provide safe drinking water as suggested by Madison Water Utility, and also to deliver a short burst of water over the turf to reduce maintenance and extend the life of the synthetic turf.

There are no special requirements for bringing your dog to Brittingham dog park.  It's our first synthetic dog park, and we appreciate any feedback you have on the design and use.
