Madison Parks Wants Your Help in Designing Camar Park and North Star Park Expansion!

Parks staff met with the neighborhood to discuss master planning for Camar Park together with North Star Park expansion on 12/4 at City of Madison Fire Station #13.  At the session, attendees reviewed opportunities at each of the new park sites, answered questions regarding their preferences and priorities for items to include in the parks and worked as groups to place amenities on a scaled plan for the sites.

Materials from this session can be found at the links, below:

Parks anticipates that a follow-up meeting will be held in early spring 2018 to review draft master plans before they go to the Board of Park Commissioners for approval.  Notifications for the future meeting will be posted to this site as well as in the parks and to Parks social media accounts.  All individuals interested in plans for the respective parks to provide comments or input on the plans.  If you have questions or comments but were unable to attend the first meeting, please contact Sarah Lerner at (608) 261-4281 or at slerner@cityofmadison.com

Background
North Star Park was expanded by several acres in 2014 offering new opportunities for amenities.  As part of the master planning effort, a tree survey is being conducted at North Star Park to determine the types (and specific locations of) trees on the property.  Residents with a keen eye may spot blue tree tags on some of the trees on the undeveloped portion of North Star Park.

In 2014, 3.47 acres of public parkland were dedicated to the City of Madison as part of the Grandview Commons development.  This undeveloped parcel is now Camar Park but needs input from the surrounding (and rapidly growing) neighborhood regarding the specific amenities to be located at the park.

With both of these exciting additions to the Madison Parks system, it is now time to master plan Camar Park and the North Star Park expansion!  The planning process for both locations will follow the City of Madison Master Plan Policy.  Parks staff will hold two public input meetings and issue a survey to gather input from the community on the future of the parks. Once the Master Plans have been developed with input from the neighborhood, the plans will go to the Board of Park Commissioners for approval.

All individuals interested in plans for the respective parks are invited to attend this meeting to provide comments or input on the plans.
