The playground replacement is underway at OB Sherry Park!

Replacement of the playground at Hiestand Park is underway!

The City of Madison Parks Division held two playground meetings to discuss playground improvements at O.B. Sherry Park

The first meeting was a playground workshop held with two other neighborhoods on November 12, 2018 at Emerson Elementary School.   At this meeting City staff presented the playground design process and seek input from the neighborhood on the park playground.

The City of Madison held a second public input meeting regarding the project on December 20, 2020 at Whitehorse Middle School.

The first opportunity for input from the neighborhood on the design of the playground was held at:

2019 Playgrounds - Group 2 Workshop
Monday, November 12 at 6:00 PM - Emerson Elementary School Cafeteria (2421 East Johnson Boulevard)

At this session the replacement of the existing equipment, surfacing and benches were discussed during the break-out/table session with Parks staff. Attendees at the session learned that all of the equipment, surfacing, and benches will be replaced with the project. Attendees cast the majority vote for a 5-12 age group play structure and a tied vote for either Playworld Systems or Landscape Structures as the manufacturer to develop two proposals for the follow-up meeting in early 2019. Attendees agreed on wood mulch as the new surfacing material. An accessible path will be added connecting the playground to the existing park sidewalk.

A follow-up meeting to review & vote on the specific equipment & colors for the playground was held:
