Work is currently underway by the developer of Birchwood Point working with City of Madison Parks to construct the master plan design at Sugar Maple Park!  New facilities including an accessible path, ½ basketball court, playground equipment, open-sided shelter and open space for field sports will be installed in summer 2017.

This project is somewhat unique for Parks in that the developer, Veridian Homes, is working with the Contractor (The Bruce Company of Verona) on constructing the park improvements and maintaining the park for a three-year period following completion.  City of Madison Parks Construction crew members will be assisting with inspections for playground equipment and safety surfacing installations and Parks surveyor will be field verifying proposed grades.

As Parks receives updates from the developer, progress on the construction will be posted to this page.

BACKGROUND:
The City of Madison held the first public input meeting regarding the project on October 8, 2015.  Staff presented a master plan concept that then received approval from the Board of Parks Commissioners on October 14, 2015.

A follow-up meeting with the neighborhood to decide on playground equipment was held on February 22, 2016 at the City of Madison Fire Station #12 located on 400 S Point Road.  At this meeting, Parks staff asked attendees if the final vote for the equipment to be installed at the park could be conducted via email, as several members of the neighborhood expressed interest in voting, but were unable to attend the meeting.  Attendees agreed, and a voting period was opened with a deadline of March 25, 2016.  The final choice of the neighborhood is listed below, along with materials and information from the meetings held to-date.
