i received a door tag? what does this mean?

Please note all street tree work performed by the Forestry Section is at no charge.

WHITE: This is a general inspection door tag. This is usually the result of a request or complaint about the terrace tree. The checked box will tell you the result of the inspection. The tree could be pruned, removed or no work was needed. The yellow dot spray-painted on the street side of the tree signals which tree will be removed.

GOLDEN YELLOW: We will be pruning your young terrace tree(s) in the weeks or months to come. Newly planted trees often have low branches that may make the trees appear well-proportioned when young, but low branches are seldom appropriate for large-growing trees in an urban environment. For example, street trees must be pruned so that ultimately they allow at least 16 feet of clearance for street traffic. Sometimes a tree will develop double leaders know as co-dominant stems. Co-dominate stems can lead to structural weaknesses, so it is best to remove one of the stems while the tree is young

PINK: The Forestry crews will be in your neighborhood performing routine maintenance on street trees. The tree(s) on your terrace will be pruned for routine maintenance or removed if it is in poor condition or has become hazardous.

LIGHT YELLOW: A new tree was planted. This door tag tells species, watering and other planting information. Per city ordinance, the Forestry Section determines all tree species, planting locations and tree replacement decisions.

GREEN: The Forestry Specialist has inspected and has assessed your terrace for tree removal or tree replacement. Per city ordinance, the Forestry Section determines all tree species, planting locations and tree replacement decisions. Not all removed trees will be replaced due to private planting, spacing issues or proximity to an intersection.
