Community Policing Blotter

Neighborhood Resource Officer

March 23, 2015 8:32 AM

Hello,

I am the new Central District Neighborhood Resource Officer, NRO for short, a new position created by the Chief to work with the District Command Staff in addressing emerging issues in neighborhoods not served by a traditional Neighborhood Officer. I have worked for Madison Police for 20 years and the majority of that time has been spent in the Central District. I work a mix of day, evening and night hours so that I can address the various issues that arise.

Central District is so unique in that it is both a residential neighborhood AND an entertainment venue where a variety of people from across the City, Dane County and even other communities come to play. We have a plethora of special events throughout the year which makes policing the District a unique challenge. It is a high density area where people from all walks of life meet.

Some current initiatives that I am working on include:

- Collaboration with the multitude of high rise apartment buildings.

- Coordinating outreach to homeless and transient population.

- Assisting other Central work units in case follow up in neighborhoods.

As the year continues, the role of the Central NRO will continue to change as problems arise and are solved. I look forward to working with our stakeholders in the District so that the Downtown area remains a place for all to enjoy.
