MPD detectives are investigating two shooting incidents which took place Thursday and are trying to determine if they are linked.   A 24-year old Madison man says he was driving east on Raymond Rd., just passed Whitney Way, shortly after 5:00 p.m., when a passenger in a car fired a handgun at him. A bullet hole was later located on the driver's side of the victim's car. Following the initial gun violence, shots were fired in the 4300 block of Britta Parkway. Witnesses said there were children in the area at the time of the gunfire. Two bullets hit an apartment building, but there were no reports of injuries in either of the two Madison cases.

Fitchburg detectives are also investigating reports of shots being fired and the MPD is working closely with Fitchburg PD at this time. A person of interest has been identified, and was taken into custody by the MPD shortly before 3:00 p.m. this afternoon. Investigators will interview this person and more information could be shared at a later time.

Officers were dispatched to multiple calls of shots fired in the 4300 block of Britta Pkwy. Almost immediately, more calls came in of shots fired in the 5300 block of Raymond Rd.

Officers did locate a bullet hole in 4360 Britta Pkwy and found a car that also had a bullet hole in it in the 5300 block of Raymond Rd.   There were multiple casings found at both locations. There were no reports of injuries.

At this point, it appears as though one vehicle may have been chasing another vehicle through the area, shooting at it.  It appears as though this was not random and the people involved may know each other. A large number of Officers, Investigators and Detectives are currently out investigating this incident.
