Incident Date08/13/2013 - 2:19 PM
Address1400 Wingra Creek Parkway
ArrestedBrack J. Sago, age 19, no permanent address
Mr. Sago was arrested for Operating a Vehicle Without Owner's Consent, Felony Theft, Bail Jumping, Hit & Run, and Operating Without a Valid License.
DetailsIn the end, the 19-year old theft suspect didn't have much of a chance escaping a rather eclectic dragnet. It wasn't just a police K9 and sworn officers who were on his trail, but everyday citizens. They were providing lots of information regarding his flight path. At one point a City of Madison garbage truck driver was giving chase, and in the end it was a MPD Parking Enforcement officer who tailing the man just before those sworn to protect and serve closed in.
It all started when a $22,000 ATV was stolen from Fitchburg's Engelhart Center, 1589 Greenway Cross.
Next, the MPD was notified that someone was recklessly driving a "dune buggy" near the Goodman Pool. Dispatch indicated it could be Engelhart's ATV. The garbage truck driver, who had just dropped a load, spotted the now damaged ATV driving near Franklin Field. It had a flat tire and was smoking. She said the driver ran into a parked SUV and took off running. She was on his heels for a bit, but lost him. However, he was seen by many, and citizens kept police posted on his possible whereabouts. Eventually it was the Parking Enforcement officer who got a good visual on the suspect, and the 19-year old was arrested on Colby St. At first, he denied wrongdoing, but later admitted he had planned to sell the ATV on Craigslist.
