MPD requesting suspect be charged with Burglary and Fraudulent Writings.
Victim(s)Male, age 47, Madison
DetailsThanks, in part, to a home video surveillance system, the MPD was able to identify a burglary suspect yesterday. He's accused of breaking into the enclosed porch of a home on Packers Ave. last summer and stealing a power saw. Recently, on February 7, the victim found it for sale at Pawn America, 2301 East Springs Dr. He called police, and the investigating officer utilized LeadsOnline to find a photo and name of the man who sold the saw. The officer discovered the suspect is currently in the Dane County Jail on an unrelated charge, and last night he went to speak with him. The 58-year old admitted to selling the saw, but claimed he did not steal it. Rather, he said he bought the power tool from someone else. The officer next showed the inmate an image captured by the victim's home surveillance camera. The officer said looking at the two photos – the one from the victim's home and the one from LeadsOnline - it is his belief that the burglar and the person who sold the saw are one and the same.
