AddressWest Johnson St. (near North Frances St.)
Details"I knew this belonged to someone and I wanted to return it," said the consciousness UW-Madison student. She contacted the MPD last week after finding an envelope filled with hundreds of dollars. The 21-year-old spotted it while out for a run last Tuesday afternoon. The sealed UW Credit Union envelope was on a West Johnson St. sidewalk. There was no receipt, no name, nothing inside that would identify who the owner of the cash might be. Another person might have pocketed the money, but not the student. She wanted to do the right thing. And she could not have made another downtown resident happier. You see, hours before her find, a 19-year old woman had notified the MPD of her loss. She did not know what had happened to her UW Credit Union envelope. She just knew it was filled with money, and likely gone for good. She was wrong on the last count. The amount in the found envelope matched what she was missing, and when an officer brought it to her apartment she was elated, not to mention a bit shocked. The officer, who had already thanked the runner for her integrity, finished his tour of duty with a smile on his face: "With the plethora of negative CFS (Calls For Service) we endure on a daily basis, it's nice to have a feel good one every now and then."
