Incident Report for Case #2015-083499

Incident Type

Special Event

Incident Date

04/04/2015 - 7:00 PM

500 block State St

The Madison Police Department is pleased to join with BadgerNation in celebrating a hard fought and gratifying victory over the University of Kentucky Wildcats in the NCAA men's basketball semi-final. Moments after a UW victory was assured, jubilant crowds flooded the State St area and were shoulder to shoulder from Lake St to Gilman.  We do not have an estimate of crowd numbers.
We are especially pleased to report that there were no significant incidents.  There was only one report of accidental minor injuries to a reveler early in the evening.  That victim was treated at the scene.
There were no arrests and no reports of property damage.
The department anticipates a similar event on Monday evening as the Badgers are headed for a National Championship matchup with the Blue Devils of Duke University.  Plans are in place for crowd management for that event.  Officers from Madison will be assisted, as they were this evening, from the Dane County Sherriff's Office and University of Wisconsin Police.  A traffic plan will also be in place Monday.  Motorists should plan ahead for traffic congestion Monday following the game. John Nolen Dr is the preferred route for traversing the Isthmus.
