The suspects have been tentatively charged with graffiti.


Investigators have determined the primary suspect in the graffiti spree is Timothy A. Arnold. He is believed to have used spray paint or marker at least 10 to 15 times to leave symbols in the downtown area. The MPD will be referring at least three charges of graffiti on Arnold, two carrying hate crime enhancers. The hate crime enhancers are for graffiti left on a concrete wall outside of the Jewish Experience of Madison, 233 Langdon St., and for graffiti found on signs posted near the Kappa Alpha Sorority, 108 Langdon St., where there are many Jewish members. The graffiti has been interpreted by many as anti-Semitic. The investigation is continuing as the MPD and UW-Madison Police Department work multiple cases. UW-Madison Police will refer charges regarding graffiti found in its jurisdiction.

 Three men have been arrested in connection with a spree of graffiti incidents that have taken place over the past several weeks in the central city. The MPD is working with the UW-Madison Police Department on these cases, and investigations are ongoing.
