(Second Update)

This morning detectives from the MPD's Violent Crime Unit took the 15-year-old suspect into custody.

(First Update)

As of 5:50 pm the lockdown was canceled.

During the course of this investigation, a second injured person was contacted. This individual, a 16 year old student, sustained a minor graze wound to his arm. He fled the Metro Bus prior to police arrival. Detectives have identified the juvenile who fled the bus with the firearm but neither he nor the handgun used has been located.

Special thanks to the students and staff at both La Follette and Sennett for their cooperation following the incident. Due to the fact an armed juvenile was seen fleeing from the bus towards the schools it was determined a lock-down and subsequent search for this individual needed to occur. Additionally, K-9 units conducted an article search around both schools looking to discover any discarded evidence.

At the request of the Madison Metropolitan School District, Madison Police have been asked to provide extra patrol in this area tomorrow.
